Magazine Catches

Magazine Catches

As with edged weapons, this part serves to catch the magazine in the weapon and after pressing it to release it again. They are made from a variety of materials such as CNC machined aluminum, metal alloys or plastic.

What is the difference between the materials and manufacturing technologies used?

CNC Latches

Each of the materials mentioned above has its own rationale.

In terms of quality and associated durability, CNC machined metal wins all the way. Their most notable advantage is the perfectly flat surface that holds the magazine in the gun, this keeps the magazine as high as it should be and prevents problems like not feeding a replica.

Another plus is the different colour options, where everyone can choose their favourite colour and combine the colour with, for example, the trigger and other accessories.

Tip: If your heart desires a very high quality CNC catch, we can recommend products from MAXX MODEL. If you are looking for different colour variants, the RetroArms products are the ideal candidate. They can be beautifully color-coordinated with, for example, the trigger or bolt catch.

Grips made of different metal alloys

"Die-cast" bolt catches are a cheaper option compared to CNC. Their durability is not bad, but due to the manufacturing process and the materials they are made from, they do not reach the same quality as the CNC versions.

If you're looking for value for money you'll most likely reach for these magazine catches.

What is CNC and why do I want it?

CNC is an abbreviation for "Computer Numerical Control", which is also used here in conjunction with machine tools. Thanks to this, we can machine a product according to pre-prepared technological NC programs. The result are products with precise dimensions. Most often, blocks of aerospace duralumin, nylon and other similar materials are used for machining.

Plastic tray catch

For catches made entirely of plastic, wear will appear the fastest. It is not uncommon to see the magazine drop out unintentionally as the plastic can buckle or, in extreme cases, the magazine catch itself breaks. These catches are encountered especially in the cheaper replicas.

What types of triggers do we encounter on an AR-15, for example?

There are 2 types of grips on the AR-15, namely:

Single-sided, which can be found on most guns on the right side, which makes it a bit difficult to shoot for left-handed shooters.

The ambidextrous, which is operated from both sides. This solution is very useful for right or left handed shooting.

There is also a variant where the magazine catch lever is on the bottom of the gun. This solution will certainly be appreciated by both right and left-handed shooters. Besides, this type is useful for quick tactical loading of the weapon. It is most commonly found on AK, MP5 and G36

Technician's advice: This part is one of the possible reasons for not feeding bullets due to its wear. In the cheapest guns we can meet with plastic and zinc-aluminum ones. These materials are not so durable and it may happen that after some time the tooth of the catch will wear out and it will be necessary to purchase a new one. Therefore, in our offer you can find very durable duralumin ones, with which you will not have this problem.
