Gun Stocks

Gun Stocks

The stock is a very important element of the weapon, which we rely on for aiming. Its purpose is to create another point of contact with the weapon and thus stabilize the gun for the shooter.
Stocks can vary in appearance, weight, style of folding or extending, as well as the material used. Some stocks have various extras such as a storage compartment (for example, for a battery or tools), an adjustable boot, or a cheek piece

Some stocks, such as the Crane stock, allow us to store the battery inside the stock. This way, there are no cables peeking out and reduces the possibility of damage to the battery or wiring, for example, from being hung up on a branch or from rain.
There are various adapters that allow you to use a different type of stock on your airsoft gun than the standard stock. We can often encounter them with AK, MP5 type guns, where we can expand the possibilities of personalizing our weapon.

WHAT TYPES OF STOCKS DO WE ENCOUNTER MOST OFTEN ?

  • A fixed stock is a fixed stock attached to the body of the gun, such as an AK47. The advantage is a stable support, more stable shooting, but the disadvantage can be the weight and overall greater length of the weapon, where I can not adjust this length in most cases.
  • The folding stock can be folded in one direction, most often to the side of the gun. As a representative we can mention g36, AKSU etc. This makes this stock suitable for shorter guns that are suitable for CQB or vehicle combat We offer quality folding stocks for tuning your AK from the 5KU brand.
  • The retractable stock allows us to change the overall length of the weapon, most commonly found on the AR15, but thanks to various adapters they can also be put on other weapons such as the MP5 or AK. Its advantage is the possibility to customize the length of the stock exactly according to our requirements.

WHAT ARE THE MOST FAMOUS MODELS OF STOCKS?

Nowadays there is a plethora of stocks on the market, but as with everything among them, specific models stand out, some have become even notorious in airsoft. Below, we will talk to the most used types.

CTR

The Magpul CTR (Compact/Type Restricted) - Mil-Spec model is a replacement stock for AR15 / M16 carbines. It is designed for light and fast action, and has a streamlined frame profile. The big advantage is that its shape prevents accidental catching on the stock position switch (for example, on a vest), which would result in the stock unlocking and sliding to the maximum length of the weapon.

The CTR also features an additional friction locking system to minimize stock movement and increase weapon stability, and an ambidextrous QD mount for strap attachment. This stock includes a standard 0.3″ thick rubber boot that provides a shoulder fit and prevents slippage even with body armor or modular equipment. In airsoft, specifically with an AEG that is not equipped with a carbonless motor, this type of stock can be a disadvantage in terms of battery storage. This is because, unlike CRANE stocks, a larger battery cannot be inserted into a CTR stock. With the HPA, GBB this fact does not affect you at all.

CRANE

The adjustable crane stock is lightweight in construction, but still strong and durable. The design of this stock gives your airsoft replica a tactical look while allowing the operator more adjustment options to better suit certain play styles. This sleek design features a low profile cheek piece for comfort when aiming with folding sights. The hidden battery compartment is easily accessible and will hold most "nunchucks" and "butterfly" type batteries. The ribbed boot in the back of the stock is very comfortable and won't dig into your shoulder even after extended periods of time. In addition, it prevents the possibility of slipping the stock, for example, on a tactical vest. The stock itself is moulded from high-strength polymer, which makes this construction both lightweight and durable.
CRANEs are the most commonly encountered in airsoft and are fitted on most m4/m16/Ar15 models from Specna Arms, Delta Armory, Cyma or E&L.

PDW

If you want a compact rifle or perhaps a very short and concealable SBR, you should choose a PDW stock. This type of AR stock takes the term "compact" to a whole new level, as it features stock bars that slide into the sides of the lower receiver. This mechanism makes these stocks the best choice for CQC AR-15s, such as in-vehicle operations and the like.
The disadvantage again can be found in the battery storage. Again, HPA or GBB do not have a problem here.

These stocks usually come with very small tubes. The shorter tube tubes allow the stock to be folded into a more compact size. This makes them very compact and takes up less space during transport. Although PDW-type stocks offer many advantages, they are not ideal for rifles built for long distances. But for compact CQC guns, they are simply the perfect choice.

oulder fit to prevent the gun from slipping during shooting. The rubber butt further ensures consistent optimal accuracy even when using a plate carrier or modular equipment.

Minimalist

As the name suggests, the minimalist stock is made to perform only the basic function of a stock. It is not the most comfortable type of stock because it does not have cheekpieces, rubber rests or any other conveniences - but that is the intent. These stocks are most commonly designed for AR15 platform rifles.

These simple and very lightweight stocks have one purpose: to provide a solid surface for the shooter's shoulder to engage the rifle. Most minimalist "stocks" are not adjustable since the receiver and stock are made as one piece to keep the rifle light.
If you are going to build a super light AR, a minimalist stock is the best choice for you. They are simple, affordable, and get the job done without unnecessary unwanted noises that could give you away to the enemy. such as the stock lock clicking, the stock sliding down the tube, etc.

PRS

The Magpul PRS (Precision Rifle/Sniper) is a fixed, precision adjustable stock for AR15/M16 platform rifles. The PRS stock is designed to be fully tunable so that anyone can customize it to their needs. It allows full adjustability for both cheekpiece height and stock length without sacrificing stock durability. The machined aluminum adjustment knobs feature positive click locks that maintain position during recoil and allow for easy tool-less adjustments by simply turning the knobs. Aluminum skid plate and alloy steel adjustment shafts provide stability and strength to withstand harsh impact conditions. The rubber stock boot offers a quality shoulder fit to prevent the gun from slipping during shooting. The rubber butt further ensures consistent optimal accuracy even when using a plate carrier or modular equipment.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED TO MAKE THE STOCKS?

In earlier times, wood was used exclusively, as it was the most available and cheapest, but as the age of development progressed, different types of plastics began to take hold, which were variously reinforced with, for example, fibreglass. This made such stocks very strong yet lightweight. With weapons such as infantry machine guns, we still see heavy stocks that make shooting easier by stabilizing the weapon and reducing recoil.
Below we summarize the most commonly used materials.

  • Wood has been used for the longest time as a material for making stocks. Its advantage is its sturdiness, but the disadvantage is its weight, additional care when wood needs to be preserved to make it water and mildew resistant. It can also crack very easily on impact due to poor care.
Nowadays, we come across wood as a solid wood, in airsoft replicas, minimally, rather laminate is used, which is lighter and cheaper.
  • Polymer is nowadays the most commonly used material for the production of stocks. Its properties such as low maintenance, abrasion ability, toughness in various heat situations and low weight make it a premier material. In addition, their low price is a big positive compared to wood or metal.
  • Metal is often used in heavy weapons such as machine guns, where its higher weight is an advantage, but we can also see it in some assault rifles such as the aforementioned AKSU, MP40. The disadvantage is the high weight, they are uncomfortable in lower temperatures, but the advantage is the higher strength. Maintenance is also important with these rifles, otherwise there is a risk of reduced strength due to corrosion.

In the case of AK-type weapons, the most common products, either original or copies, are made by ZENITCO. This company produces various types of external accessories for AKs and stocks are certainly not to be missed in its range. When choosing, it is important to look at what series of AK the stock is made for compatibility. As the most popular models we can mention PT-1, PT-3 and ZPT-3. Very good company is 5KU, producing very quality copies of zenitco models.

In our offer you can also find spare parts such as bolts with washers, feet or whole tubes.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF STOCKS TO MAKE THEM LAST AS LONG AS POSSIBLE?

Plastic stocks do not need special maintenance. For metal ones, the use of an anti-corrosive impregnation is ideal. Wooden stocks should be painted regularly with wood varnish to make them waterproof and impregnated against mould infestation. It is recommended to apply the wood varnish, let it dry until the next day and repeat the whole process. Any excess paint should be removed.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE WOODEN STOCK GETS DAMAGED?

In case of the need to "work" the stock as an alignment of the broken piece, it is recommended to sand the place with sandpaper, starting with coarser paper depending on the extent and using the finest paper (ideally designed for wood) for the final one. It is then best to repaint the repaired area with varnish to achieve a smooth but protected surface, and then repaint with an impregnation after it has dried. This step will ensure that the stock can continue to perform its function in the long term and avoid the possibility of it getting wet and gradually deteriorating.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO MOUNT OTHER TYPES OF STOCKS ON THE GUN, FOR EXAMPLE, AK ?

Yes, this possibility exists in the form of adapters. These adapters allow us to attach other types of grips. As an example, the already mentioned AK platform can be equipped with a tube and stock from AR15 thanks to the adapter, where this upgrade will be appreciated by many players. It is always important to be careful when selecting a particular model of weapon for which the reduction is designed, otherwise there is a risk of incompatibility and the need to purchase a different type of reduction.
