The cylinder head is another important part of the air handling system. It is inserted into the end of the cylinder and seals it with 1 or 2 O-rings. In addition, it ensures that it is properly secured in the mechabox by means of two holes on the sides of the head.

In its front part we find the "nose" along which the nozzle moves. This nose has different lengths, so it is ideal to use the same length as your replica. It is very important to have this nose lubricated with a suitable lubricant so that the nozzle can slide well and the ring is not destroyed by abrasion due to dry running.

Can I use any head in any gun ?

Using any head is unfortunately not possible in most cases. There are universal heads, but only for the most commonly used mechaboxes, namely V2 and V3. In the case of special weapons, such as the M14, the use of a head for that model of weapon is required.

In most of them, we find an impact rubber on them, which serves to dampen the impact from the piston head.

Is it necessary to change the cylinder head when doing an upgrade ?

It is not always necessary, some of the better guns have well made cylinder heads that can be sealed with air seals. If the replica has a plastic cylinder head, we recommend replacing it here. New heads are often made by precision CNC machining and therefore their tightness is incomparable compared to plastic pieces.

Is there any add-on to reduce the noise of the piston head impact?

Yes, this add-on does exist. Either a conventional rubber washer or a so-called sorbopad can be attached to the cylinder heads. This tiny piece is a special shock and vibration absorbing material patented and manufactured in the USA. It not only increases the life of ZnAL mechaboxes, but if properly tuned, it can also make the gun noticeably quieter.

Are there any other types of piston heads?

Sure! Do not forget about NBU heads, that are are part of the NBU air kit (the kits have an enlarged diameter for higher air volume), so they are incompatible with standard air kit parts.
